Offer fans the option to buy music directly from you, the artist. With the ‘Album’ feature, you can sell a collection of tracks, commission-free.

Note: When you add an album to your website, the settings you’ve applied will be saved in the music feature. You can reuse albums and tracks throughout your site and they will retain the same settings. If you want to change the settings of an album on only one page of your website, you can create a new album and apply unique settings (such as offering for free or setting a download price).

How to add an ‘Album’ feature to your website

Sell your latest album release directly on your website, or create a page to sell your music online which includes multiple albums.

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ control panel, click ‘Pages’ and open the page on which you’ll be working
  2. Click ‘Add feature’
  3. Select the ‘Album’ feature and use the placement arrows to set the feature’s location
  4. Click ‘Add a new album’
  5. Enter the ‘New album’ description, including the follow:
    • Album name: enter the name of your album release
    • Artist: this will default to your ‘Site profile’ name. You can adjust the artist name for the album without affecting your ‘Site profile’ name
    • Release year: choose your release year from the dropdown
    • Add image: add your album cover art. You can add additional images in the ‘Bonus files’ options
    • Description: provide further details about your album. For liner notes, include them in your ‘Bonus files’ options
    • UPC code: enter the UPC code for the digital album. To learn more about UPC codes and Luminate (formerly SoundScan) reporting, read our Reporting Sales to Luminate (formerly SoundScan) Help article
  6. Select your ‘Pricing & availability’ options:
    • No: your album will not be available for download/sale from your website
    • Yes: your album will be available for download/sale under the condition of your ‘Purchase Type’ Accept pre-orders: allows fans to purchase your album in advance. Your album will be sent on the release date. Learn more about [Music and merch pre-orders]
  7. Choose your Purchase type from the following dropdown options:
    • Free
    • Free - require email address: allows fans to download your album for free, in exchange for their email address, which will be added to your ‘Mailing List’
    • Free - require member login: allows fans to download your album if they login or register as your site member
    • Paid - fixed price: You set a purchase price for the album
      • Optional: Select ‘Is on sale’ to set a sale price or a discount percentage.
    • Paid - fans set price: Allow your fans to set the price they want to pay for the album. A minimum amount can be set here.
  8. Subscriber pricing: Use the toggle to apply ‘Subscriber pricing,’ which offers the following options:
    • Lowest applicable tier: select the lowest tier the special pricing is available to.
    • Subscriber purchase type: choose from the following
      • Free
      • Paid - fixed price: You set a purchase price for the album
      • Paid - fans set price: Allow your fans to set the price they want to pay for the album. A minimum amount can be set here
  9. Linking and sharing: Use the toggle to ‘Allow direct linking’ in this section. This option will create a unique page and url for your album
  10. Bonus files: Click ‘Upload files’ to upload liner notes, a lyrics booklet, sheet music, additional album images, etc., ‘Bonus files’ will be included in the emailed ‘Album’ zip contents. You can upload multiple files here
  11. Click ‘Save album’

Adding tracks to your album

Once you’ve created your overall album details, you’ll need to add the tracks that will be included in the album download. You can upload MP3, WAV, or FLAC files for your tracks, but in the album format it’s best to stick to one file type overall. To add tracks to your album, follow these steps:

Note: Lite and Standard members can upload up to 250MB per individual track file. Pro plan members can upload up to 600MB per individual track file. The total file size for the album can be 1.6GB.

  1. In your ‘Album’ feature, scroll down to the ‘Tracks’ area
  2. Click ‘Add track’
  3. Choose from the following options:
    • Add a new track: allows you to create a new track
    • Use existing track: allows you to use a track you’ve already added to your website. You can re-use tracks created in other ‘Music’ features. The same metadata contained in the original track will apply
    • Import from Soundcloud: Importing tracks from Soundcloud requires updates to your permission settings in Soundcloud. To learn more, please review the ‘Importing Soundcloud Tracks’ Help article.

Adding a new track

If you are adding a new track for your album, you can enter the following track details in the fields provided:

  1. Enter the ‘Track info’ including the following:
    • Track name: enter the name of your track
    • Artist: this will default to your ‘Site profile’ name. You can adjust the artist name for the album without affecting your ‘Site profile’ name
  2. Click ‘Upload’ in the ‘Audio file’ area. This prompt will open your device’s file browser. You can upload MP3, WAV, or FLAC files.
  3. In the ‘Track preview’ area, choose from the following options:
    • Preview clip: Set your preview clip range. Choose the start and end times of your preview clip using the dropdown options
    • Upload custom preview: You can upload an MP3 file with a custom preview you’ve created. This is useful if you have a watermarked preview clip
    • Play full track when shared: Choose this option if you would like the track to play in full when the direct link is shared
    • Use preview clip when shared: Choose this option if you would like the preview clip to play when the direct link is shared
  4. Set your ‘Pricing & availability’ with the following options:
    • No: your album will not be available for download/sale from your website
    • Yes: your album will be available for download/sale under the condition of your ‘Purchase Type’
  5. Choose your ‘Purchase type’ from the dropdown options:
    • Free
    • Free - require email address: allows fans to download your album for free, in exchange for their email address, which will be added to your ‘Mailing List’ members
    • Free - require member login: allows fans to download your album if they login or register as your site member
    • Paid - fixed price: You set a purchase price for the album
      • Optional: Select ‘Is on sale’ to set a sale price or a discount percentage.
    • Paid - fans set price: Allow your fans to set the price they want to pay for the album. A minimum amount can be set here.
  6. Set your ID3 tags option:
    • Automatically generate: creates the ID3 tag from the data in this track information
    • Leave tags as they are: will use your track’s embedded ID3 tags. Select this option if you’ve generated your own ID3 tags.
  7. Create your ‘Track details’ (optional):
    • ISRC code: Enter your track’s unique ISRC code. To learn more about ISRC codes and Luminate reporting, review the ‘Reporting Sales to Luminate (formerly SoundScan)’ article
    • Track notes (optional): Enter track notes. An ‘Info’ link will be generated next to your track name, which will link to a page containing the track and your notes.
    • Lyrics (optional): Enter lyrics. A ‘Lyric’ link will be generated next to your track name, which will link to a page containing the track and lyrics. If you have also added ‘Track notes,’ only an ‘Info’ link will appear
  8. Click ‘Save track’
  9. Repeat these steps for each track on the album

Bulk uploading tracks

Upload your album’s tracks all at once with the following steps:

  1. In your ‘Album’ feature, scroll down to the section entitled “Drag and drop your tracks here”
  2. Click ‘Upload multiple tracks’ or drag a selection of tracks from your device
    • Upload multiple tracks: Clicking this option will open your device’s file manager. In your device’s file manager, use commands to select multiple tracks from your device and click ‘Open’
    • Drag tracks: In your device’s file manager, use commands to select multiple tracks. Then, drag the tracks into the space ‘Drag and drop’ area
  3. When you’ve completed your track details, scroll to the bottom of your listed tracks and click ‘Save’

Each track that successfully uploads will be listed. You can fill in the following options for track details:

  • Audio file lists the audio file name. You can click ‘Replace’ to replace the track file or click ‘X’ to remove the track from this upload
  • Track info:
    • Track name: enter the name of your track
    • Artist: this will default to your ‘Site profile’ name. You can adjust the artist name for the album without affecting your ‘Site profile’ name
    • ISRC code: Enter your track’s unique ISRC code. To learn more about ISRC codes and Soundscan reporting, please see: ‘Reporting Sales to Soundscan’
    • Track notes (optional): Click on the dropdown arrow to enter track notes. An ‘Info’ link will be generated next to your track name, which will link to a page containing the track and your notes.
    • Lyrics (optional): Click on the dropdown arrow to enter lyrics. A ‘Lyric’ link will be generated next to your track name, which will link to a page containing the track and lyrics. If you have also added ‘Track notes,’ only an ‘Info’ link will appear.
  • Pricing and availability options:
    • Allow download/sale:
      • No: your track will not be available for download/sale from your website
      • Yes: your track will be available for download/sale under the condition of your ‘Purchase Type’:
        • Free
        • Free - require email address: allows fans to download your track for free, in exchange for their email address, which will be added to your ‘Mailing List’ members
        • Free - require member login: allows fans to download your track if they login or register as a site member
        • Paid - fixed price: Set a purchase price for the track
          • Optional: Select ‘Is on sale’ to set a sale price or a discount percentage (pro-only)
        • Paid - fans set price: Allow your fans to set the price they want to pay for the track. A minimum amount can be set here.
        • Subscriber pricing: toggle on to apply special pricing for fan subscribers
      • Apply this pricing for all tracks: Applies the pricing and availability options to all tracks in this bulk upload
  • Preview settings:
    • Preview clip: Set your preview clip range. Choose the start and end times of your preview clip using the dropdown options
    • Upload custom preview: You can upload an MP3 file with a custom preview you’ve created. This is useful if you have a watermarked preview clip
    • Play full track when shared: Choose this option if you would like the track to play in full when the direct link is shared
    • Use preview clip when shared: Choose this option if you would like the preview clip to play when the direct link is shared
    • Apply these Track preview settings for all tracks: Applies your preview settings to all tracks in this bulk upload
  • ID3 tags:
    • Automatically generate: creates the ID3 tag from the data set on each track
    • Leave tags as they are: will use your track’s embedded ID3 tags. Select this option if you’ve generated your own ID3 tags.
    • Apply ID3 tag settings for all tracks: applies this ID3 tag setting to all tracks in this bulk upload.

‘Album’ feature options

Your ‘Album’ feature will show additional options below the tracklist in the editing area. The following options are available:

  • Playback type: Select the playback for the tracks grouped in your ‘Album’ feature

    • Full tracks - high quality (128kbps)
    • Full tracks - uncompressed
    • Preview clips only
    • No playback
  • Show album share link: creates a direct link to the album which you can share on social media and direct link

  • Show share link on individual tracks: creates a direct link to each track in your album. This is useful if you have track notes or lyrics in your track details

Album Formats

Add cassette, CD or vinyl versions of this album in the Formats area. They can be purchased along with your digital album, or included in your store. The format options include Digital download, Cassette, CD, Vinyl and will list the cost per format. To add a physical format selling option, follow these steps:

  1. In the ‘Album’ feature, click ‘Add cassette, CD or vinyl’ in the ‘Formats’ area
  2. Choose your ‘Product type’ from the dropdown selections - cassette, CD or vinyl
  3. Add the following details for your product
    • Product name: Your item will automatically appear as ‘Album Name - CD’ or ‘Album Name - Vinyl’ unless you adjust this field. In grey text below, you’ll see how your product name will appear.
    • Description (optional): Add any details or notes about your physical album here.
    • Images: Upload your main album image and other images for your album. A mini photo gallery will be created if you upload multiple images.
    • UPC code: Add the UPC Code for the physical album. Check out our help article to learn more about UPC codes.
    • Status:
      • Available: Sets your item available for purchase
      • Not available: Displays your item on your page, but it is not available for purchase
      • Hidden: Does not display the item on your page
    • Purchase type:
      • Free: Allows fans to purchase your physical album for free. Shipping will still be applied on checkout.
      • Paid - fixed price: You set a purchase price for the product.
      • Paid - fans set price: You allow your fans to set the price they want to pay for the physical product. A minimum amount can be set here.
    • Price: Set the price for your product
    • Subscriber pricing: toggle on to apply special pricing for subscribers
      • No: No sale price for subscribers
      • Yes: Set a subscriber purchase price type and choose the lowest ‘Subscriber tier amount’ for which subscribers can purchase for the sale price
    • Taxjar category: To be used if you are connected to Taxjar.
    • Include digital download of this album: Use the toggle so fans receive the digital version of your album when they purchase the physical item
    • Linking and sharing: Use the toggle to ‘Allow direct linking’ in this section. This option will create a unique page and url for your album
    • Free download: Use the toggle to attach a free digital download of your album
    • Inventory (Pro only):
      • No: Does not track inventory
      • Yes: Set the number of items available in stock. If your stock goes to 0, the album will be set to ‘Not available’ on your site.
    • Shipping:
      • Don’t charge shipping
      • Custom shipping price: Set a charge for the first item, additional items, and an international shipping surcharge
    • Weight: You can specify the item's weight in ounces here; this will help calculate shipping charges if you have connected to EasyPost. You can learn more about shipping merch here: Shipping Merch
    • Handling surcharge: This is an optional fee to cover any additional shipping costs like materials and packaging. It can also be used to add shipping charges to non standard items that are light but sizable where charging for shipping by weight doesn't work.
  4. Click ‘Save product’

How to share an album

If you’d like to share your album on social media or with a direct link, follow these steps:

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ control panel, click ‘Pages’ and open the page where your ‘Album’ is located
  2. Click on the ‘Album’ feature
  3. In the top right of your ‘Album’ editor, click ‘Share album’
  4. Follow the prompts to share your album on social media or copy the direct link

‘Selling Tools’ options

In your ‘Album’ feature, your site-wide selling tools options are available in the left sidebar. You can adjust your options directly within the ‘Album’ feature, or head to your ‘Selling Tools’ dashboard to update.
