New: Sell album pre-orders

New feature: album pre-orders

A brand new way to sell your digital albums was just added… you can now accept pre-orders before your album is officially available. Fans can buy your album in advance, and instantly get it the moment you release it to the world.

There are several benefits to selling an album pre-order. First, in any promotion you do for the album, you can link directly to your store page so fans can buy it right away, while you have their attention. Second, pre-orders are a great "fan funding" tool, to help offset some of the costs of producing or promoting your album. Finally, your best fans get the album immediately, when you release it. So everyone wins!

Using our Music feature, any digital album can be made available for pre-order on your website. Fans who buy your album in advance will be sent a download link on the date the album is released.

You can even add preview tracks as they’re created, to help encourage fans to pre-order the album. And of course, you still keep 100% of your sales!

Pre-orders are a PRO feature, along with a lot of other cool stuff (like selling PDFs and videos, sale pricing, and creating download codes).

How it works

  • Add a new album to your website using the Music feature

  • In the Add album screen, select Accept pre-orders

  • Set a price for your album (note: pre-order albums cannot be set as free)

  • Set a release date (we'll show this date to your fans, but you can choose to release the album any time)

  • Click Save

Once you’re ready to release the album, simply go to the Pre-Order tab in the Music feature and click Release. This will make your album available for purchase and send download links to fans who already ordered it.

Make more money as a musician! Keep 100% of your revenues when you sell music, merch, & tickets through your website. Sign up free with Bandzoogle now.

Can we do this with a single?
Dave Cool

Giant 1: Yes, you can setup an album and label it as a single, take pre-orders for it, and then upload the one track when it's ready.

Hello, Can we offer it for presale as a hard copy or only digital?
Dave Cool
Posted by Dave Cool on Jan 22 2015 11:30 AM
Dayna Manning: This is only for our digital music feature. For physical copies, you can take pre-orders using our Store feature (and making sure it's clear that it's a pre-order in the title), and simply ship out the CDs when you get them.

is there anyway to make the preorder available for free?
Dave Cool
Posted by Dave Cool on Mar 12 2015 10:25 AM
There's isn't. But what you can do is put an image feature to show the product, then the custom form feature for fans to put in their info. Then when the product is ready you can email those people with a link to the Store page with the item to download for free. Just click the Help tab if you have any other questions.

Now that BZ has Soundscan reporting, this means pre-orders will affect the 1st week of sales & charting, yes?
Posted by Adam on Nov 13 2015 1:36 PM
@Mark Etheredge - Preorders are only reported to Soundscan once the album is released. If you have any other questions, let us know in support via the 'help' tab in your account, and we'll be happy to help further!

How would I go about it so when you pre order my album you instantly get one song for free?
Posted by Adam on Jul 28 2016 8:23 PM
@Joel Howard - currently there's no option to provide a free download with a preorder purchase automatically. However, if you include a free download track in the music feature track list of your preorder album, visitors will be able to grab the track for free. Alternatively, you can 'email a download' of a track to anyone who purchases your preorder - just copy their address from the 'transaction history' of your music feature, click 'email a download', paste in the address, select the track and click 'send'. If you have any questions, let us know in support via the 'help' tab of your Bandzoogle account!
