You may have gotten an email, or seen a warning, that Google Analytics is moving from Universal Properties (UA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) as of July 1, 2023. While we do offer simple built-in visitor and sales reports powered by Bandzoogle, some users choose to connect their reports tabs to Google Analytics to take advantage of the more in-depth data available there.
So, what does this message mean if your Bandzoogle ‘Reports’ tab is to connect to Google Analytics?
For you to keep seeing the data you’re used to with your UA property with Google, you’ll need to set up a GA4 property. This can be done in your Google Analytics account directly. Once you’ve done so, return to your Bandzoogle ‘Reports’ tab. You’ll see the new Google Analytics 4 property listed, and can select the GA4 property you want connected. It’s a pretty simple process, and this video will walk you through the steps:
Please note that Google has decided to discontinue offering historical data. This means you will only be able to see visitor data starting from the date that your new Google Analytics 4 property is set up. This includes visitor location and song plays. Your Bandzoogle sales data and mailing list campaign metrics will remain visible going back to the time you initially set up your Bandzoogle account. We keep track of your ‘Sales’ and ‘Fans’ data in-house, so those numbers should remain intact.
Google will, however, make the previous UA data available in your Google Analytics account under that specific UA property for 6 months past July 1st 2023. If you’d like to download your data, you can do this in your Google Analytics account directly, from within your UA property specifically. We’ve included the steps on how to do this (as well as how to re-connect your Report tab) in this Help article:
As musicians and data nerds ourselves, our priority is to keep showing you the stats that are important to your growth: traffic, visitor info, song plays, and sales.
And for even more stats, we have page-level data available on the Pro plan. This helps if you’re running music marketing campaigns with Landing pages and measuring conversions in particular, like to promote a new release or boost ticket sales for an upcoming show - any promotion strategies you might use dedicated pages to support.
We hope this helps clear up the change Google has made, and that you’re able to re-connect your Reports tab to show updated data moving forward.
