If you are designing or updating your website and don’t want it viewed it during that time, you can add an intro page that will prevent the full site from loading. This way visitors know your website is active, and only temporarily unavailable.

How to set your website to ‘Under Construction’:

PART 1 - create the intro page

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click ‘Pages’
  2. Select ‘Add a page’
  3. Click ‘More page types’
  4. Select ‘Intro page’
  5. Name your page in the ‘Title’ field
  6. Visibility: ‘Published’
  7. Click ‘Create my page’

PART 2 - remove the ‘enter’ link

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click ‘Pages’
  2. Click the pencil icon to the right of the intro page title
  3. Select ‘advanced settings’
  4. In the ‘Show intro link?’ option, select ‘no’
  5. Click ‘Save’

PART 3 - add your ‘under construction’ message

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, open the intro page
  2. Click ‘Add feature’ and select the Text feature
  3. Add the message you’d like displayed on your intro page
  4. Click ‘Save’

Notes:

  • You can also add other features to the page. Click ‘Add Feature’ then select from the list of features, and use the placement arrows to set the feature’s location on the page.
  • Intro page font and background colors can be modified in the ‘Edit Theme’ tab. Be sure to open the intro page in the ‘Edit Content’ tab first, and then click the ‘Edit Theme’ tab.

How to hide pages from bookmarks and indexed search pages

Although you now have an intro page with no menu or enter link, visitors can still get to your site pages through bookmarks and Google searches. To hide the pages follow these steps:

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click ‘Pages’
  2. Click the pencil icon next to your first page
  3. Next to ‘Visibility’ select ‘Not published’
  4. Click ‘Advanced settings’
  5. Next to ‘Access Restrictions’ select ‘Anyone with a password’
  6. Enter a password for this page
  7. Click ‘Save’
  8. Repeat these steps for each page you’d like hidden completely while your website is under construction

How to take my website out of ‘Under Construction’ Mode

PART 1 - remove the intro page

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click ‘Pages’
  2. Click the pencil icon to the right of the intro page title
    • Option 1: Click ‘Delete Page’ in the bottom right corner
    • Option 2: Next to ‘Visibility’ select ‘Not published’ then click ‘Save’

PART 2 - remove restrictions on interior site pages

  1. Click the pencil icon to the right of the first page title
  2. Next to ‘Visibility’ select ‘Published’
  3. Click ‘Advanced settings’
  4. Next to ‘Access Restrictions’ select ‘Everyone’
  5. Click ‘Save’
  6. Repeat these steps for each page that was previously hidden while the site was under construction
