Sometimes musicians and bands need to change their name. Whether you’ve started a new side project, struck out on your own, or think the band needs a makeover, changing your name on your website is easy. If you need to make a name change, you’ll want to update it in a few places within your website account.

Domain name

Your domain name is your unique address on the web. With a Bandzoogle website plan, you’re eligible for one free domain name for as long as you have a website with us! You cannot alter an existing domain, so if you’d like to change your domain name, you’ll need to register a new one first. To add a new domain, follow these steps:

How to update your domain name from your Bandzoogle account:

  1. Log in to Bandzoogle or, if you’re logged in, click on the BZ icon in the top left corner of your control panel
  2. In your dashboard overview, click ‘Account Details’ in the ‘Quick links’ section
  3. On your ‘Account Details’ page scroll down to the ‘Domain Manager’ area
  4. Click the ‘Add new domain’ button
  5. Choose from the following options:
    • Register new domain: allows you to register a new domain directly with Bandzoogle. If you decide to cancel your account in the future, you can transfer your domain name away to a new provider.
    • Connect existing domain: if you have registered a domain elsewhere, you can connect the domain here. There will be additional steps to point the domain to your Bandzoogle website.
  6. Enter the domain name in the ‘Domain’ area. You do not need to add "www."" before the domain name
  7. Click ‘Check availability’
  8. If the domain is available, click ‘Register this domain’
  9. On the next screen, confirm your request by clicking ‘Register [domainname]’
  10. Follow the prompts to pay for your domain

How to update your domain name from the editing panel:

  1. Click the button with your username initials in the top right corner of your control panel
  2. Select ‘Account Details’ from the drop-down menu
  3. In the ‘Domain Manager’ section, click the ‘Add new domain’ button.
  5. Enter the domain name in the ‘Domain’ area. You do not need to add www. before the domain name
  6. Click ‘Check availability’
  7. If the domain is available, click ‘Register this domain’
  8. On the next screen, confirm your request by clicking ‘Register [domainname]’
  9. Follow the prompts to pay for your domain

Note: We provide one free domain registration to website plans. If you’ve already used your free registration you can pay to register a new domain and then set the new domain as primary. You can then let your old domain expire and we'll renew only the new domain going forward.

Project Name

How to update your website’s project name:

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click ‘Pages’ on the left side of the screen
  2. Select ‘Site-wide settings’ below the list of pages
  3. Under the ‘Site profile’ tab, update the ‘project name’ field
    • The name indicated here will display in the browser tab at the top of the screen when your site is loaded, and within your Bandzoogle account as the username in the drop-down menu next to the ‘View site’ button. It is also visible when you post a comment in the ‘Community’ tab.
  4. Click ‘Save’

Note: The project name is used to create your free trial URL (projectname.bandzoogle.com), but the URL will not change if the project name is updated. The trial URL is permanent in our system and cannot be altered. However: once you have registered a free custom domain name through your paid plan — or added one that you already own — the trial URL will not be visible to the public, and will only be seen from inside your Bandzoogle account.

Header Text

How to update your header site title:

  1. From the ‘Edit Content’ tab, click on your site title to open the settings pane on the left of the screen
  2. **Edit the text in the 'Site title' field
  3. Click ‘Save’

Content

You’ll also want to update the content area of your website by replacing any instance of your old name with your new name. (e.g. Homepage, About page, etc.)

Note: It will take time for Google to re-index your pages. We have no control over the time frame but typically it should update on search engine results within a few weeks. You can resubmit your sitemap which may speed up the reindexing process a bit.
