In the video tutorial above, we show you all of the built-in SEO tools for musicians that Bandzoogle has to offer for musicians. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and is a combination of the steps you take to ensure that your site can be seen by search engines.
Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
Your sites title tags and meta descriptions are automatically filled out by Bandzoogle. These tags are based off the page titles, and title features placed within a page, as well as titles in blogs and other features.
However, you can add your own meta descriptions and page titles using the custom SEO options on each page. If you haven’t seen our video covering that process, you can check it out here:
Google Verification & Sitemaps
We also include tools to verify your domain with Google and YouTube, and taking the time to complete this process is critical to ensure that your site is understood and indexed by Google.
Your sitemaps are what Google uses to read your website and understand what your pages and content are about. We have tools here that allow you to submit your sitemaps to Google in only a few clicks, and it's a critical step to take to ensure your site is indexed with accurate information.
Here's a tutorial on this process:
HTTPS
Having your domain secured is important for good search results. Google will always prefer secured domains over unsecured ones. But, with Bandzoogle, we add SSL certificates to your domains once they're set up with your website so you can be sure this is taken care of. Mobile Optimization
Google has placed much more emphasis in recent years on sites that are responsive and compatible with mobile devices. However, if you're using any one of our responsive templates, this is automatic and you don't have to do anything to ensure your site is responsive.
Unique Domain Names
Your domain name is very important for search results, as it's one of the main factors search engines use to determine if a site is related to the search terms entered.
One domain name is included for free with your paid membership, and you can create or add new domains in the ‘Account’ tab of your control panel in the Domain Manager section.
Having your band name as the domain and ensuring that the domain is unique are two excellent ways to help your site rank higher in searches.
Schema
Schema code is a unique data structure that allows Google to interpret all your sites content. Bandzoogle automatically adds this code to your website based on the data you've set up in your site profile.
Automatic schema is also added for the Bandzoogle events feature, music feature, and the site wide my sites feature. So, using these features on your website and filling out all the information fields is a quick way to add some extra data for Google to read and add to search results for your website.
If you have your own schema markup you’d like to add to a specific page of your site, you can add it into an HTML feature on the page to allow Google to read that information as well.
Alt Tags
Google is pretty smart, but it can’t interpret an image. To allow Google to know what your image is of or related to, you’ll need to add alt tags to the images.
To add an alt tag, you’ll just need to add a caption to the image feature or the images in a gallery, and Bandzoogle will automatically add the code to specify that as the alt tag.
External SEO Practices
On top of using your own site, it’s key for SEO to ensure that your site and information appear elsewhere.
So, having your band on sites like Wikipedia, Musicbrainz, Wikidata, and distributing your music to YouTube and other major distribution services is an excellent way to ensure you have a wide reaching web presence.
Just be sure to include links to your official website! If you aren't sure how to get started on adding your music to these sites, check out these blogs:

Keywords
Over time, keywords have become less important in Google’s algorithms, but they're still are one of the components of good SEO practice. Your keywords should be added in places like your custom page descriptions, used as page titles, and added in throughout your site’s text and content.
Google does offer a free keyword research tool with their Adsense accounts, so taking the time to sign up for a free AdSense account and using the keyword research tool can be a great step to take to make sure that you’re using the best keywords possible with your website.
