During this time of worldwide crisis, many musicians are leveraging online ways to support themselves. Making money online with your music is more important than ever right now.
To help with this, we’ve added a new feature: the Tip Jar!
With the Tip Jar, you can collect donations online from your fans, commission-free, through Stripe or PayPal. This is a Pro feature, but will be available to all members, on all plans, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How to use the Tip Jar
Setting up your Tip Jar is easy. You’ll click Add feature and then select the Tip Jar. Choose the place on your page where you’d like it to go.
Next, fill out the title, description, and add an image. You could put your logo here, a band image, or anything you like! A square image works well here.
Finally, set the minimum tip amount. Keeping in mind that there is a processing fee for the transaction, starting at $2 would work well. You can of course set that a bit higher if you want, but your fans will likely tip somewhere in the area of $10 - $20 without needing a minimum threshold. And some of your fans will probably surprise you by giving more!
You can connect your Tip Jar to the same payment settings as your other e-commerce features. That means you can accept tips via Stripe for direct credit cards, or by Paypal.
Tip Jar ideas
Make your Tip Jar match your design seamlessly by placing it into a column beside one of your features. It would work well on your Store page, or Shows page if you are listing live stream shows. You could also place the Tip Jar directly on your Homepage.
When you add the Tip Jar feature, it will match the section style it’s placed into, slotting neatly into your design. You can move it abound on the page, so it fills a section, or sits nicely in a column beside your other content.
The Tip Jar also includes a ‘Share’ option. Enable the share link to allow your fans to easily share your Tip Jar on social media. It comes with a permalink page, meaning your Tip Jar can appear on its own page if you’d like.
Using the Tip Jar
It’s not easy to ask for money. With a Tip Jar as part of your professional music website, it’s a more seamless, intuitive process that invites support.
Celtic-rock band Enter the Haggis has been hosting live stream listening parties and accepting tips on their sleek Tip Jar page. Their image stands out with a bright pop of color and the donate button is clear on the page.
We hope that adding a Tip Jar to your website will make it easy to collect donations from your fans. As with all of our e-commerce features, all of the sales are commission-free, so your fans' money goes directly to you without a revenue split or cut along the way.
