As artists continue to pivot to making money from their music online, you might consider subscriptions to help you engage your fanbase. Fan subscriptions are a unique way to monetize your music career. You’ll gain monthly, recurring revenue, and your fans will gain a unique experience by subscribing to your fan club offerings.
Perhaps you’ve been toying with the idea of offering paid subscriptions to your fans. If you’re not sure how much to charge, you can now let your fans decide with this just-released update to the Bandzoogle subscriptions feature: pay-what-you-want subscriptions.
Let’s take a look at how to offer pay-what-you-want subscriptions to your fanbase!
Offering fan subscriptions
With subscriptions, fans pay a monthly fee in exchange for exclusive rewards and access to your music. This will help you create income online, using your skills as a musician and content creator.
To launch fan subscriptions on your music website, you’ll set up a subscriptions page. Add a description of what you are offering, then set up pricing tiers that correspond with the rewards for your subscribers.
Pay-what-you-want subscriptions
Not sure how to price your content? Set up a pay-what-you-want pricing tier and leave it up to your fans to decide. Letting them decide how much to give is a nice way to let your fans support you at any level they are comfortable with, or able to.
With the pay-what-you-want Tip Jar feature, the average tip to Bandzoogle members from their fans is $42.12 (read more here: Bandzoogle members earn over $5M since pandemic began). So you might be surprised at the value your fans place on your art.
To add the pay-what-you-want option for subscriptions, head to the Subscriptions area in your Bandzoogle account. Once you add a pricing tier, choose the Paid - user sets price option. You can then determine the minimum price for this tier, or set it to 0 if you don’t require a minimum.
Offer a free tier to your subscribers
Along with this update, you can also now offer a free tier to your website subscribers. This option is a handy way to allow your subscribers to gain access to your subscription offerings for a month to decide if they want to be a part of it. Or perhaps you have a superfan who is supportive and active in your community, but isn’t able to afford a subscription.
Use fan subscriptions to generate income
Fan subscriptions are best suited for musicians and artists who create content on a regular basis. With touring and live shows on hold for now, this model might be a great way for you to offer regular, paid shows to your fans directly. You can also offer exclusive videos, discounts on merch and music, Q&A sessions, or music lessons to your monthly subscribers.
If you’ve decided you’d like to give fan subscriptions a shot, we hope you can make use of the pay-what-you-want option. It’s an effective way to let your fans support you at any level as you put your heart into creating meaningful content with your music.
