Chris,

You and the BZ fam have made something special here. Thank you for all your hard work Smile If we want to have different top header images on each page, is this possible too?

Aviad

50shekelgmailcom November 27, 2009

Chris,

What if we wanted to take a template you already have and tweak it...for example the one i have has a black transparent bar in the top header. is there a way we can take that out? So I guess the question is, can we modify the already made templates somehow as well? Thank you again for all your hard work and creativity Smile

Way to go! Awesome!

First off, the link you gave doesn't work unless you copy from the "http://..." part of it.

The video tutorial is great and the simplicity of how to use is also great. It reminds me a bit of when I make a myspace page but yet, a lot more important since it's my homepage.

I hope a lot of the musicians who whine about templates finally find something to smile about. I personally think you guys are working hard for us. Keep up the great work!

KILLER!!! Can't wait to get my hands on this!!!

greenmachineband November 28, 2009

Chris,

This is amazing! We're planning a revamp of our site into the new year and were looking to just do one big HTML section under header, but this new capability means we can keep things simple!

The only thing I'm waiting for now (I know, we musicians are never happy!) is the ability to use CNAMES and A records which Allison said you guys were working on!

Great news, and the reason BZ is the only option.

Cheers,

Grae

Wow, this looks like a lot of fun and so simple to use! Thank you...I know a lot of work went

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback. We're really excited to
get this launched!

We won't be adding the ability to completely customize the
premade templates right now. Instead, we'll be adding the
assets from the most popular templates (like backgrounds,
buttons, etc) to the custom template picker so you can use them
when creating your own design, or you can mix and match or
tint them to create something completely unique.

Chris November 28, 2009

CUSTOM TEMPLATE BUILDER ?

Chris,

When is this feature going to be made available ? soon I hope ...

Also, is there anyway that you could incorporate a CUSTOM
FORM BUILDER that would be used for creating forms that a
band or DJ could
publish when They/He/She is available for gigs .... maybe with a
built-in calendar of "available dates", possibly up to 3/6 months
in advance and a feature that would e-mail the SysAdmin or
designated recipient(s) of such form once a potential client fills
it out.

THE "CUSTOM TEMPLATE BUILDER" and the "CUSTOM FORM
BUILDER" are both great additions to the bandzoogle.com list of
features that now make us the #1 "Full Featured" site builer for
bands/DJs alike.

Let me know your thoughts !

poorboys - The custom template builder doesn't have the option to re-size content columns, but it is something we have on our development list to possibly add in a future update.

cirodj - You can create forms now in the Edit pages tab, click Add feature and select Custom Mail form. This allows you to create a form that your visitors fill out and it will be emailed to you. At the moment it is not linked to a calendar. I will add that option to our suggestions list. Smile

Allison November 30, 2009

A very exciting development, guys - Thanks!

Here's my question: The process that was shown on the video...do we do that for each page individually, or does it change the whole site?...and if it DOES change the whole site, can we then go in and make changes to an individual page, such as changing a picture we want at the top of the page?

playbackrocks November 30, 2009

This is clearly a massive leap forward for Bandzoogle and toward putting greater control in the hands of the users, well done to all at BZ for this incredible development!

Dare I add though that it seems, even with the custom builder, that we remain with long vertical pages with feature "blocks" rather than interesting framed or laid out pages. I'm being picky though, maybe with clever background images something more diverse can be done. Really is very impressive so far.

One question - given the "ground up" learning we will all have to do, the playing about and experimentation, will there be any way to do this offline without interrupting our current sites?

daft November 30, 2009

WOW!!! guys - you keep re-inventing yourselves to stay up-to-date with technology & your customers' requests - that is just AWESOME!!!! so happy to be in the BZ community Smile

...wondering - will the new customizable option allow us to customize each page on the website differently, or will it be the same template throughout the entire website?

thank you for being RAD!!!
Z.

ziva November 30, 2009

Really excellent news. The semi-transparent feature will allow those of us who use PS or Illustrator to get creative with the layering effects.
Looking forward to building all my sites with this new feature. Thanks!

Cascadia November 30, 2009

[quote="Allison"]poorboys - The custom template builder doesn't have the option to re-size content columns, but it is something we have
on our development list to possibly add in a future update.

Hey Allison, I control the sizing of my columns by embedding an image at the bottom of a text block that matches the desired width for that
column. For instance, I want my left column to be 500 pixels wide and my right to be 150, I embed a 1x500 pixel image in the left column.
This sizes the left column at 500 pixels wide and effectively autosizes the right column. All other blocks that fall below that 500 pixel wide
text block will maintain the same width. Make sense? It's not the greatest, but at least gives me some control where I need it.

Cascadia November 30, 2009

Great job you guys! I'm loving the new changes! Keep it coming...

AMORERAYNE November 30, 2009

very cool!

meltingpotband November 30, 2009

G20Music November 30, 2009

Very Happy super excitement!

and. also. i haven't read if this has already been asked... is there any way to control transparency of the header image?. and if i wanted to
tie in some of the background graphics with just the edge of the photo... i think it would be EXCELLENT to be able to control the edge
transparency and also the shape of that transparency..

just a thought.

over all..... AMAZING! i had been looking forward to something like this

Thanks again for all the positive feedback. This project has
been our major focus for a long time. We're looking forward to
all the cool stuff you guys will be able to do with it!

playbackrocks: Once you make a custom design, it appears in
the template picker like any other. You can add different
headers on each page just like you do now. The template you
make sets the cropping size, so when you add images they fit in
your design for each page.

daft: You're right, it doesn't affect the content area at all. Our
next major project is revamping the page content area (both in
how you design it, and how you add content to it).

ziva: it will be the same template on each page, for now. Along
with the update I mentioned to Daft, there should be some
additional options to make layouts that change the look of
different pages.

Cascadia: that is a pretty inventive way to get around our
column sizing. But, we'll make it much easier in our next release
so you can just drag the size you want.

Prelude To Paradise: edge effects like that won't be part of the
first version. But: it is real easy to do this with free image
editing programs. We'll add some tutorials explaining how to do
this step-by-step.

Chris November 30, 2009

Bandzoogle admin

missed your question Daft:

Yes, you can build your template without affecting your site at all.

Chris November 30, 2009

I what i see so far for the customizable template. It's a big step in the right direction.

I would, however, like to see more features that are included with such website generatos as WIX (www.wix.com).

There, you can easily create flash files from their templates for your music player, your gallery, etc.

I would love to have a flash file of my picture gallery on the front page as well as a nicer looking music player.

RossBonandMBK December 01, 2009

I LOVE you guys. I've been a zoogler since 2005 with different websites and you are always my first choice and first recommendation because you listen and evolve. Love, love, love the customizable template option.

undergroundcol December 01, 2009

Wooooowwwww. I know very little about the type of coding this would take, but the little I
do know makes this totally mind-blowing. To be able to do this in the browser, with NO extra
coding on the user end, so quickly and with such flexibility - this is where the internet is
going FOR SURE, we've all been saying it and reading it for years. Way to be so far ahead of
the curve!

For the record - I've been doing a lot of tech-focused interviews in the last little while
(our band does a lot of high-tech interaction with our fans) and the one universal comment I
get from fans and press alike is that they absolutely love our website. I get emails every
few days from people asking me to refer our webdesigner, and I get to smile when I send them
the link to BZ. People aren't looking for over-the-top Flash based sites anymore, it's all
about the content and nobody makes presenting that content easier than Bandzoogle!

I've been beta testing it for a few days now and have applied what I've done to my page. It's nothing spectacular, but you can see some of what it can do www.nextexitrocks.com. Using the home page as an example, here are the changes I've made.

- webpage can be as wide as 960px, which is where I set mine. This is considerably wider than my old template
- image can be any size you want and can be zoomed in/out. After some experimentation I left mine pretty much alone
- custom menu color (dark yellow)
- custom color on menu hover (maroon)
- custom background behind menu (an animated gif)
- custom background behind content (street signs, may lighten this up a bit)
- custom color on the outside of the sheet (the dark blue part)
- custom color subheader (dark yellow)
- custom picture behind subheader (the red line)

Custom things I did myself (not the new site builder)

- flash slide show using "flash slideshow maker" - free with ad that displays or you can pay and ad removed
- "Upcoming performances" are an IFRAME with the source coming from a google document. I just find it easier to

implement this way. I can also make a "printable version" link. I've just never been impressed with the default schedule module.
- Mailing list code lifted from page source and inserted into a text field so I could put it where I wanted to
- "What People Are Saying" section is another google document in an IFRAME set so you can scroll through the document.
- "We're a Travelin' Band" section is a google map I made of all the venues we've played in the last 8 years.

Um...3 posts up Chris pretty much tells you - We have been testing the new template builder with a small group of beta users. We'll have info posted about it next week; launching
in January for certain.

Soulmusicsummit January 29, 2010

Just watched the video of the new custom template system coming soon and can't wait. I have done 2 other websites for non-profits using bandzoogle, and they are very pleased. However, this is going to open up the design possibilities a lot. Thanks for continuing to make this a great site design system. You're not just for the music world.

hansenhi5media February 03, 2010

Hey there, just wanted to drop a line and let you know it is active now. Just go to Design and Options, and the customize button. Have fun.
