Social network sharing added to blog and events

Under each blog post and on the event details page, you'll now find a "share" button that lets your fans post it to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or via email. This makes it a lot easier to spread the word. More social network functions are coming soon...

Great new feature - thank you! - but I have a few questions:

1. is there a way to track how many times and where your content is being posted?

2. Is there a way to turn this function off - what if you don't want your journal/blog entries being posted other places without your consent?

Thanks but I am less enthusiastic then everyone before me.

There is no option to turn it on or off that I can see and it is making us rethink some of the formatting we incooporated on our 'dates' page.

We used a forced dividing line to separate our dates and now with this 'share' ling being forced into the page it appears to be at the top of the next date and not at the end of the existing. We needed to lose that line to make it work.

Second, WHY do I want to share previous date information??? I loved the fact that the system moves a date to previous dates once it is past but now there is a share link over and over down the page with all the old dates.

My opinion is - Nice to have but we need an on/off switch at the event level.

Thanks!

hey folks,

We'll be reformatting the look of the events feature in the next 2 weeks or so. In doing, we'll try to make the share button blend in a bit more, and clean up the overall look.

Hey there Chris...
You need to acknowledge that you are reading our posts (I think you are). No one asked for it to be cleaned up or to make it blend any more. I think that if you were to poll whether or not it is functional we would ALL AGREE it is great.

What we need is a way to turn it off. go look at my "n the Dates" page and see how goofy it looks at the bottom of all or PREVIOUS dates (bottom of the page). I love the feature and appreciate ow much you are workign to add functionallity but as asking for a little check box that tells that SHARE link to stay off any date I choose (especially previous dates)

Thanks!
Bandzoogle is really the best!

Agreed, should not be on previous dates. Will be removed pronto.

However, adding more options (even simple ones) gradually makes a system that is very complicated. We could have a zillion options for adding an event; this would make it much harder to use.

After the tweaks, feel free to email me with your thoughts/concerns - chris [at] bandzoogle.com

So... while the big debate continues I decided to test the little button to see what happens.

I clicked Share... and then email... and completed the form...
NOTHING.
So I did it again...
NOTHING. NO email has arrived to date.

Has any one else tested the functionality and gotten a positive result?

Thanks!

philnthevoid: there was a small bug in the code that was fixed and it should be working fine now.

NeargrassJunction: the share link is part of the events feature, so it wouldn't be a part of the "add feature". Adding options would complicate each time you add an event.

I have heard from a few members who have complained about this function. The majority have said they don't want people to post their events on MySpace or Facebook. This doesn't seem to make much sense to me... spreading the word about events is important regardless of the medium. And, people will post them anyway; but without this button you are just making it more difficult to do so.

I understand people who want to blend it in more, and we will have an update soon.

Hey Chris - just to help you troubleshoot, I've had no problem posting blogs or bulletins to
MySpace, but I (and a lot of our fans) haven't been able to make the Facebook share option
work at all. You get a blank form with the title (no title) and a broken link. I like this
feature a lot, and have been telling all our fans to use it - it'll be a great tool for
viral networking once the kinks are all worked out.

Chris... "Have I told you lately..."

There is nothing better that being heard. THAT is what makes this service better than just good... it is OUTSTANDING.

I was on my events page and all the "share" links are OFF my previous dates - delivered as requested!

Thanks very much.
PS: I just renewed with a prepay for the entire year. Nice work.
