Brand new mailing list with location-based targeting

Another big update, this time to the mailing list. Brad revamped it from top to bottom and added some powerful new features:

Automatic fan location
We now automatically find the location of your mailing list members when they click any link in your mailouts. This means that even with just an email address, you can find out where your fans are coming from! Even better, we've retroactively done this for all the members in your current list, so you'll notice cities listed for a lot of existing fans (if you've sent mailouts with links in the past).

Send by location
Now that you know where your fans are located, we figured you'd want to target your emails to specific areas. So, in the "targeting" step we've added the ability to send to fans around a specific zipcode (for example, all fans within 100 miles of zipcode 90210). This is great when you're announcing tour dates but don't want far-away fans to get those emails.

A whole new look
Finally, the interface in the control panel has been completely revamped, making it faster and much easier to use.

With this update to the mailing list, the new site traffic system, and last week's "email for a track" option, you now have both powerful incentives to grow your fanbase, and also detailed data on who those fans are when they sign up. In an upcoming blog post, I'll give you some tips to take maximum advantage of these features!

Chris! You and bandzoogle are the best! You've given us the ability to have an amazing website with extremely top rate features that even dummies like myself can use effortlessly! Your timing is awesome as my new CD has just been out a couple weeks!

This gives me more incentive than ever to get new members!

Thanks a million!

once again thank you Bandzoogle for the great tools and improvements! I did that manually by creating groups for each country, but now it is obviously much better. However, I have some fans without locations, does that mean they don't read the emails or just they don't click any links? would it be possible to track if people do click any of the links provided in the emails?

Awesome!

Did you also make it so we can see who unsubscribed and therefore allowing us to update off-line lists?
I can't wait for that!

When will the changes be implemented? Right now it looks exactly the same to me. Do I need to do anything on my end?

atomicskunk: the fan lookup takes a few days from the time they click the links. To see the overall changes to the mailing list, try creating a new email campaign.

most of my members still do not have a location. will it be added later?

This will be a great feature when they are all updated!!

thanks

Can anybody tell me where and what's the "email for a track" all about?

I like the feature but I have a couple of questions. First, I notice that some of the people on my list now have locations far away from where I know they actually live (i.e. they are neighbors in Massachusetts but the location filled in is in California). Is this because it is picking up where they logged in from on a given day or some other piece of information? Second, do these locations fill in just once or will it change with my next e-mail campaign (to the extent the information the program relies on changes)?

Randall - Regarding the first issue, email us from the help tab with the name/email address of that visitor and we can look into it further.

The update only happens once. Once we have a location for a member we don't change it.
Also, we don't override info if it is already there (i.e. city, state, zip).

Hi

Great feature.
Not sure whether the issue is linked to the updaes ti mailing lists, but when a fan now signs up via the Mailing list widget, the initial confirmation email goes straight to their junk folder. Can thi be fixed? It's only started happening in the past week.

Thanks
